The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation

raised $35,000 this year, culminating with our Dancing for Joan gala on February 21st.  Hours of music, dancing, dining, and silent auction were the order of evening - along with some very important information about lung cancer.

The event was emceed by CNN’s Nancy Grace.  Ms. Grace also promoted the foundation on her television program throughout the weeks before and after the event.

Party-goers viewed an important informational video entitled This is Lung Cancer which detailed the unfortunate statistics about the disease and its lack of significant research funding.  The presentation also put a human face on the number one cancer killer in the world.

Honorary Chairman Paul Scheinberg, Chief of Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta spoke to the crowd as well, highlighting the need for much more awareness and research funding.

The specific use of the money raised will be announced in the coming weeks.  The information will be publicly available on our web site.  It will also be communicated directly to our subscribers.  Stay tuned!

Thank You!

We would like to sincerely thank all those who went Dancing for Joan on Saturday night.  We hope that you had a wonderful time and learned something new about lung cancer.  Thanks also to those who could not attend, but who made a donation to our cause.

Because of your generosity, The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation will be able to make a real impact in 2009.

Our Sponsors

We also extend a very special “Thank You” to the folks at AV Tech Services for the donation of their hard work, expertise, and equipment for Dancing for Joan.  They gave the evening's presentations and videos a superb showing.

We highly recommend them for your professional audio/video presentation needs.

Please see all of our sponsors here, as the evening would not have been a success without them.

Lung Cancer

Collaboration Conference

The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation was proud to attend this conference in Dallas, TX on February 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

For the first time ever, 18 lung cancer organizations gathered in one room for a face-to-face meeting to discuss new ways to collaborate.  Our goal was to find ways to come together to eradicate lung cancer as one powerful force.  The event was made possible by a generous grant from Genentech and underwritten by CancerCare.

Helpful Resources

Beyond awareness and advocacy, we strive to be an organization that provides helpful information and support to those people affected by lung cancer - patients, family, and friends.

To that end, we have created a special section of our web site dedicated to providing "Helpful Resources", including information on CT Screening, Clinical Trials, Radon, and more.

Look for the Helpful Resources link on the left side of our site.

OPI created Breathe Life especially for LCFA, in order to raise awareness of the difficult fight against lung cancer. Not only will OPI be distributing Breathe Life to thousands of its customers nationwide, but the company made a generous donation to LCFA, too.

So, please, ask your favorite salons in your area to hold SALON DAYS to bring awareness to lung cancer.

2008 in Review

Generous donations from supporters like you have enabled The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation to spread the word and raise awareness in 2008.

We invested $5,000 in Lung Cancer Alliance - Georgia as sponsor of their Fourth Annual Atlanta Lung Cancer Run and Walk in November.

We also invested nearly $20,000 throughout 2008 in an aggressive awareness campaign that included electronic and print direct mailings, brochures, and various promotional materials.  We believe that we have spread the word about lung cancer in the Atlanta and North Georgia region to a meaningful extent.

Much, much more needs to be done, however.

Some highlights of our awareness campaign:

  • Three direct mailings to over 1,500 people nationwide
  • Over 3,500 informational brochures distributed across North Georgia
  • Over 2,500 promotional items created and distributed
  • Exhibitor to three community fairs in which we evangelized for the cause of lung cancer awareness and advocacy
  • Since its re-launch in August of 2008, over 4,500 new visitors have logged on to our web site.  There, they have been educated on the hard facts about the state of lung cancer and have hopefully been motivated to take action.

As stated, another successful Dancing for Joan has enabled us to make even bigger plans for 2009.

Thank you to our supporters once again!
