A Special Day for Florrie

The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation was honored to be invited to the Dedication and Blessing of The Florence Hays Erb Clinical Specialty Center at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.

Foundation president Joe Gaeta was one of many in attendance on September 18.  Archbishop of Atlanta Wilton Gregory was on hand to bless the center named in honor Florence Hays Erb, the wife of William Erb.  Florrie passed away due to lung cancer in 2007.

It was an inspiring ceremony.  Mr. Erb is deserving of much praise for his contribution to Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

You can read more about the Erb Center here, including some pictures from the dedication and blessing.  A loving tribute to Florrie can be found here.

Important News

“Most people are not aware that lung cancer among non-smokers has such an enormous impact,” said Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) President & CEO Laurie Fenton Ambrose today. The heavy burden of lung cancer in non-smokers contradicts the common belief that lung cancer is a disease that strikes only smokers."  - Click here to read entire article.

Fact of the Month

Lung cancer kills nearly twice as many women as breast cancer.  It surpassed breast cancer as the #1 cancer killer of women in 1987.

Mountain High

The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation spent two wonderful weekends in the North Georgia and Western Carolina mountains this month.  We participated in church fairs, spreading the word about lung cancer by talking directly to festival-goers and passing out informational brochures.  We also had Watercolors by Joan on display and for sale as framed prints, stationery, and calendars.

On September 6th, our foundation had a lung cancer awareness booth at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd's "Country Fair" in Hayesville, North Carolina.

We were in Blairsville, Georgia on September 19th and 20th for the annual Fall Festival at St. Francis of Assisi

Catholic Church.

Thanks to all who came by to see us.  We certainly hope that we touched your hearts with the urgency of our cause as much as you touched ours with your enthusiasm and praise of Joan’s artwork.

Look for us at more community festivals and fairs throughout the year!

Check out our event calendar to see where we'll be next.
